Driving a Car from a coaching perspective
Life coach Marcia Nicoll often uses the example of a person who wants to learn to drive a car to explain what she does. A traditional therapist or counselor would help the person find out what in their past might be holding them back from driving that car. A consultant would bring the person an owner’s manual, explain how everything worked and return six months later to check up on you. A mentor would share their own experiences driving a car, while a life coach would sit the person in the car, get into the passenger seat, and encourage, endorse and support the person until they were comfortable.
